Manchester United had a scout at Porto this week to watch goalkeeper Diogo Costa in action for the Portuguese side.
That’s according to Record, who say Manchester United and Roma both sent and ‘observer’ to the Dragão to watch Costa in action.
Costa is again being linked with a move away from Porto and Manchester United are believed to be at the front of the queue for him.
That comes as the ongoing saga around Andre Onana continues, with it believed that United would like to move him on after an error strewn season.
The latest of those was the horror show in Lyon last week, which saw him benched for the Premier League defeat to Newcastle. He did, though, return for the second leg against the French side and put in an improved showing.
Nonetheless it is felt, at least in England, that Manchester United would like a new number one and according to Record that saw them scouting Costa this week. Porto were 2-1 winners over Famalicão on Friday.
Now, we would point out that Manchester United have been linked with Costa consistently every transfer window for the best part of five years at this point.
Any time there is a question of them needing a goalkeeper, or questions being asked about their current goalkeeper, Costa is either being linked or being scouted again. Thus, we’d take this with a pinch of salt at this stage.
With the questions about Onana, though, and Costa set to enter the final two years of his deal at Porto, perhaps now is the time for that long-standing interest to become more concrete.
