With Romelu Lukaku close to leaving Old Trafford to link up with Antonio Conte in Italy, Manchester United will be on the hunt for a striker this summer.
Wissam Ben Yedder is a man who has been linked on several occasions, and Estadio Deportivo report his capture is now a ‘goal’ for United after a failed attempt to get Pierre Emerick Aubameyang out of Arsenal.
They say that once the Lukaku deal is completed there will be more movement on the striker hunt and Ben Yedder is the most likely target.
The Frenchman made a positive impression when he scored twice against United in the Champions League two seasons ago and has made it clear he wants to leave Sevilla, although he doesn’t intend to disrespect the club and try to force a move.
Sevilla are happy to sell after signing Moanes Dabbur and Luke de Jong this summer but have made their stance clear, they will not accept anything less than Ben Yedder’s €40m asking price.
That’s a decent price for a player who has scored 52 goals in his last two seasons, particularly in this market.
With their rebuild under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer focusing on youth, though, perhaps they will turn to someone younger than the 28-year-old instead.
