Earlier today, Swedish side IFK Norrköping’s chief scout Stig Torbjörnsen confirmed Liverpool are one of the clubs to have shown interest in Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson.
According to Sportbladet, the Reds are joined by Manchester United and Juventus in chasing the 17-year-old.
It’s claimed the Red Devils scouts watched the exciting winger in action during Norrköping’s 3-1 win over Varbergs BoIS on October 18th.
A week later, the Merseyside club and the Serie A winners had their officials monitoring the winger against AIK on Monday.
Torbjörnsen is surprised by the interest garnered by the Icelandic youngster, who joined the club in 2019.
“I’ve never experienced anything like it. The interest is completely wild. It’s such a battle for the young talent. You can tell by all the calls and requests you get. When there’s a hype around a player, the others want to join in,” the Norrköping chief scout said.
When asked if United, Liverpool and Juve are watching the midfield prodigy, Torbjörnsen explained: “Yes, it is the category of clubs that are interested. You notice that many are interested because they make direct contact with us.”
Sportbladet also managed to speak to the talented player, who was born in England, in Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham, where he expressed his admiration towards the Old Trafford club.
“Manchester United are my favorite team, but Norrköping is my dream club. I lived in Manchester when my dad played there [in England] and watched many matches,” Jóhannesson said.
“(laughs) You can’t say that [not going to Liverpool because United are his favourite team]. They’re playing good football now. City and Liverpool have been great.”
Ísak’s father Joey Guðjónsson represented Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City, Burnley and Huddersfield Town during his playing career.
Jóhannesson has four goals and 10 assists in all competitions for Norrköping this season.
