Manchester United are one of the clubs linked with Red Bull Salzburg’s Erling Braut Haaland and multiple reports have suggested the Red Devils have an advantage over other clubs because the striker played under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Molde.

A source has now told Norwegian outlet Dagbladet United are ‘far ahead’ in the race to sign the 19-year-old and have already probed to find out the teenage sensation’s next step.

Solskjaer wants the Norway international at Old Trafford, and it’s stated he’s submitted a proposal to sign the player. Dagbladet don’t make it clear, but it would appear the manager has made the proposal to Manchester United, asked for the signing, rather than lodged a bid with Red Bull Salzburg.

It’s unclear whether United are trying for him in January or next summer, and the report states it’s more likely that Haaland will finish this campaign with the Austrian side.

The Salzburg star scored another hat-trick for his club last weekend and with that, Haaland has taken his overall tally to 26 goals in 18 matches in all competitions this season.

With Dagbladet reporting United are ‘far ahead’ in the transfer race for Haaland, it will be interesting to see how things develop from now until the end of the season.
