Manchester United’s interest in Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic is getting louder ahead of the summer transfer window.
Milenkovic has emerged as one of the hottest young defenders in Europe over the last few years, with a series of impressive performances for the Serie A side.
That’s seen him regularly linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United thought to be particularly keen.
They are believed to be on the hunt for a long-term partner for Harry Maguire this summer, and several reports in Italy have indicated that Milenkovic is high in their thinking.
Corriere dello Sport pick up on that today and say that the ‘sirens of the Premier League’ are there for the centre back, and those from ‘Manchester United in particular’ are ‘becoming increasingly loud’.
What that means isn’t made explicitly clear, but the insinuation is that United are stepping up their efforts to sign the 23-year-old.
That is likely to do with the fact his contract expires in 2022, meaning he will enter the final year of his deal this summer.
That puts Fiorentina in a tricky situation if they can’t get him to renew, with this year the last in which they can get a good fee for one of their prized assets.
This is all something Manchester United will be more than aware of, and perhaps their ‘sirens’ getting louder is an attempt to steal a march on the competition.
