Atalanta took Cristian Romero on a loan deal from Juvenuts last summer and they have an option to buy.
Claims of Manchester United’s interest in the centre-back started to surface in the last month or so.
Having finished the 2020-21 season on a brighter note, the Serie A side could now ‘sacrifice’ the 23-year-old this summer after having made his stay permanent.
That’s according to Eco Di Bergamo, who state United have made a ‘super offer’ worth €45m for the Argentina international.
Barcelona and several English clubs have looked at the centre-back, but the Old Trafford club have been ahead to take the star away from Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.
The South American’s exit for €45m will see him become La Dea’s club record sale, and an offer in the region of aforementioned figure, the local newspaper states it would be ‘practically impossible for Atalanta to say no.
Eco Di Bergamo explain that if the €45m proposal from the Red Devils is confirmed, then Romero’s future will be in England.
Atalanta have a good relationship with United after having sold agreed a deal for Amad Diallo’s sale last summer.
They earned big through the teenager’s sale and ‘a monstrous capital gain is expected’ if Romero moves to Old Trafford.
For now, Atalanta have made Romero’s stay permanent and he now belongs to them.
If United’s interest in the player is concrete, and said offer suggests they are, we can expect more developments in the coming weeks.
