Manchester United will hand Raphael Varane a €12m a year deal to sign for the club, trumping Real Madrid’s efforts to keep the defender.
That’s according to Sport, who cover the defender’s future today and how it looks like it will be at Old Trafford.
Reports in Spain and England alike have suggested Varane is on the verge of joining Manchester United this summer, having elected to depart the Bernabeu for pastures new.
Manchester United are at the front of the queue, having been suitors for several years and reports yesterday indicated a deal could be finalised as early as next week.
Whether that happens remains to be seen but Sport cover that today and add that the deciding factor in Varane’s moves could be the wage packet on offer.
They say Madrid had hoped to convince him to stay and renew his contract, but he has opted for a ‘change of scenery’.
He has an offer on the table from Manchester United that ‘far exceeds’ what the Spanish club are willing to offer.
United are reportedly willing to give him €12m a year net to join them, while Real Madrid were only willing to improve his current deal by €2m, taking it from €5m to €7m a year.
That is something that has left Varane a little disappointed, as well as confused, given the club have guaranteed new signing David Alaba €12m a year.
He believes Los Blancos should be willing to match that for him given his services over the last ten years, but the fact they aren’t has turned his head towards Manchester United, who are willing to give him the wages he wants.
