On April 21st, Manchester United announced the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their new manager from the 2022/23 season.
Since then, journalist Rudy Galetti has insisted the Dutchman has identified Ajax’s Jurrien Timber [and Villarreal star Pau Torres] as the Red Devils’ defender targets.
Towards the end of the last month, the journalist explained that Ten Hag would like to use the Ajax player on the right side of the back four at Manchester United.
Galetti took to Twitter again to provide the latest update on the efforts made by the Old Trafford club to sign the Netherlands international.
He states ‘close contacts’ between Manchester United and Ajax are continuing for the 20-year-old. Ten Hag’s side ‘aim’ is to make Timber their first signing of the summer window.
🚨🔥 Close contacts between #ManUTD and #Ajax for Jurrien #Timber are continuing. No surprise from May 21: the #MUFC's aim is for the 🇳🇱 to be the first signing. ✅

The journalist further adds the talks are ongoing between the two clubs over the price tag of ‘around €40m’ for the versatile defender.
Galetti adds ‘there is optimism about the success of the agreement’, meaning the two clubs could try to reach an agreement for Timber to make a switch to Old Trafford.
