Over the past few weeks, the Catalan media have reported that Manchester United are one of the contenders to sign Barcelona youngster Mikayil Faye.
More recently, Arsenal have also been thrown into the mix.
A fresh report from Sport states the centre-back has received interest from Manchester United, Juventus and Arsenal.
They add the Senegal international’s profile is suited for the Premier League while he also manages other options like RC Lens, Girona, OGC Nice and Borussia Dortmund.
His fine displays for the Barcelona reserve team helped him make his debut for Senegal last month and he’s among the youngsters that has ‘aroused the most interest’ from several other clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal.
Faye’s deal lasts until 2027 and has a €400m clause. Barca are aware they’ll receive interesting proposals for him, but they don’t intend to sell him nor send him out on loan in the next window.
He and his entourage have shown willingness to leave Barca for a top team, but a new plan from the club may change their stance.
Another report from the same newspaper states Manchester United, Arsenal and Juventus are in transfer ‘fever’ for the defender.
A deal is unlikely to take place since Barca are satisfied with Faye’s performances and plan to give him opportunities in their first team before the end of this season.
It’s to be noted the Catalan media have created hype around Faye, by dragging the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and even Chelsea in to create a supposed transfer battle.
There’s been a suggestion of Barca wanting a big fee for him, while wanting to insert a buyback clause.
This all feels like it’s for the benefit of Barcelona fans and hype around the player, rather than a real battle, but time will tell.
