Manchester United are keeping track of Rennes left-back Faitout Maouassa after his impressive performances for the French side this season.
Maouassa has been one of Rennes’ key players this season, establishing himself as the first-choice left-back and making 32 appearances in all competitions.
He’s been highly impressive in those games two, racking up three goals and two assists so far to help Rennes sit third in the table and push for Champions League qualification.
His performances have earned him attention from around Europe, according to L’Equipe, who say the 21-year-old, who was once wanted by Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid, has a growing list of suitors.
On that list are Manchester United, who have been ‘looking at’ him this season, although they are yet to commit to any ‘contractual negotiations’ of any sort.
It’s explained that scouts and sports directors alike have been ‘won over’ by the left-footed full-back, who has already played 108 professional matches despite his young age.
A key part of their interest stems from the fact he only has one year left on his contract, with it implied that Rennes could be tempted to sell should a bid exceeding €10-12m come their way.
That is a price Manchester United could easily afford to solve a position which has long been a problem for them.
Maouassa, for his part, finds the idea of playing in the Champions League with Rennes ‘appealing’ but the fact that he is yet to even start negotiations on a new deal could give United the window they need to make their move and secure a bargain.
