In the past few days, there have been quite a few stories saying Manchester City are along with Manchester United in the hunt for the Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Even though the Red Devils’ interest was reported first, the recent news have been claiming that Pep Guardiola is now interested in the player, and should join the battle for a summer move.
Now as Lazio are playing Milan for the Italian Cup tonight, there’s a big coverage about the game in Italy, with several people being asked to talk about the squads.
Website Calcio Mercato had to stories about Lazio’s team today, and curiously, each one mentioned a Manchester club as a possible destination for Milinkovic-Savic.
The first one was the Il Messagero journalist Emiliano Bernardini, who claims José Mourinho’s side would be a good club for the midfielder.
“He is an extraordinary player and it will be difficult to contain the desire of a player wanted by great teams like Real Madrid, Manchester United etc. Anyone wants to wear such shirts.”
But former fullback Giuseppe Pancaro, who has over 200 appearances for Lazio, thinks the player is good enough to play for the blue side of Manchester.
“Milinkovic-Savic is a complete player, a top player who, beyond the numbers, has shown he can play in the best teams in the world: from the big Spaniards to Manchester City. He’s an extra weapon for this Lazio. And he’s also young…”
These are the kind of quotes which only feed the transfer rumours, although it’s pretty clear that people in Italy expect Milinkovic-Savic to join some huge club next summer.
But will Guardiola and Mourinho really make a personal race for the player?
