In his second Champions League start of the season, Maxwel Cornet scored a brace for Lyon in their 2-2 draw against Manchester City.
The forward was the standout player for his side and even Pep Guardiola, the English champions’ manager praised him after the match.
“I was very impressed by the talent of Maxwel Cornet, there is a lot of talent in France…” the manager said, as quoted by RMC Sport.
According to Italian website Calciomercato, the Etihad outfit have set their sights on the 22-year-old after he impressed their manager in the European tie between the two clubs on Tuesday.
The report also goes on to claim that the Premier League winners will ‘make an attempt’ to sign the Ivory Coast international, but that will only be done at the end of the season.
Bruno Génésio has not started Cornet in the league, but he’s played over 200 minutes in Ligue 1 across eight substitute appearances and has seen his playing time limited, since joining Lyon in 2015.
Cornet’s contract with the French club is until 2021.
Manchester City are often linked with a player after he impresses against them, but it may have some merit. Ederson is a player Guardiola signed after being impressed whilst managing the opposition, Bayern Munich on that day, with the Spaniard taking his admiration to City.
