Manchester City’s Rodri is set for a long spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury against Arsenal last weekend.
The Spain international’s setback could see the Citizens look for a midfielder in January.
Manchester City have been linked to a few players and Hakan Çalhanoğlu has been added to this list. That’s according to InterLive.it, who state Pep Guardiola is ‘ready to steal’ him from Inter Milan.
Simone Inzaghi has mainly used the 30-year-old as a defensive midfielder since the start of the 2022/23 season. He has starred in that role, also contributing with goals and assists.
Çalhanoğlu operated in the same position in Inter’s goalless draw against Manchester City in the Champions League last week.
It’s claimed there’s ‘temptation’ from Manchester City for the Turkey international. The Premier League winners are ready to make a ‘sensational offer’ to snatch him from the Nerazzurri in January.
The report states they are willing to make a ‘monstrous investment’ to sign the midfielder. The figure quoted is around €50m, which may not be ‘monstrous’ for Manchester City but certainly is for a player of his age.
Çalhanoğlu’s contract lasts until 2027, and InterLive.it state the Serie A winners could reject a €50m bid for him.
This feels like media close to Inter Milan using the situation to hype their own player.
