Alex Grimaldo to Manchester City is a rumour which has been quiet for a while, and is freshened by the Catalan press this Thursday.
Sport’s website brings a story saying the Premier League side have ‘asked about the player’s situation’ at Benfica, where he’s been excelling for a long time now.
That some kind of contact has been initiated would indicate this one is travelling forward.
It’s claimed that Grimaldo is leaving Portugal in the summer, and a sign of this is that he’s changed agents, now having his career managed by the same company as Manchester City defender John Stones.
The reason why Pep Guardiola would like to have Grimaldo is the constant absence of Benjamin Mendy, who’s been struggling with injuries since signing for the club.
Grimaldo, who came through Barcelona’s academy, has been much linked to Manchester City by the Portuguese press, who always pointed out the Catalan connection with Guardiola.
The player is protected by a €60m release clause.
