On Monday, it was reported by the Spanish media that Manchester City have been in contact over signing Matheus Nunes from Sporting.

It was said Pep Guardiola’s side saw the player as a solution for the departure of Bernardo Silva, who could be on his way to Barcelona this summer.

So reacting to the news, even though part of the Portuguese press makes some noise with this rumour today, newspaper A Bola turns up to rule it out.

The outlet claims to have learned that there haven’t been any talks between Sporting and Manchester City, despite the ‘excellent relationship’ between the clubs.

A Bola adds that the Lions will continue to do ‘everything’ to hold Nunes for one more season. And only an offer they can’t refuse, which would be something over €50m, would convince them to let him leave.

There was only one Premier League side who actually came for Nunes this summer, and it wasn’t Manchester City. Wolverhampton Wanderers nearly agreed a deal to take the player, but ended up being turned down by the midfielder himself.
