The Catalan media have been taken over by a creeping optimism since last weekend’s presidential elections. There’s a fresh outlook towards the future and there’s hope of several signings coming in during the summer window, despite the club’s delicate financial situation.
Even exiting the Champions League against PSG didn’t do enough to bring a downer on things, and Friday’s reason to be cheerful for Barcelona is Manchester City’s Eric Garcia.
Sport have the defender on their cover for the umpteenth time and it’s explained Barcelona are still working on finalising a deal for the player.
Garcia’s contract expires at the end of June, Pep Guardiola has already explained there’ll be no renewal, and the process shouldn’t be too difficult for the Blaugrana.
New president Joan Laporta ‘plans to approve’ Garcia’s signing and it will be done ‘within the coming weeks’.
A ‘preliminary agreement’ has been reached and it’s now for Laporta and his men to approve that. Sport say the signing is ‘on the verge of becoming a reality’.
Garcia is waiting for the move to be finalised ‘in days or weeks’.
There’s doesn’t seem a great deal new here, but Sport clearly want to shout about Garcia again.
