It would seem that no club wants to appear the favourite to sign Erling Haaland in the summer.
Over the past week or so, there’s been endless reports fuelled by Barcelona sources which have stated the Catalan side aren’t leading the pack for the Borussia Dortmund striker, Manchester City are.
There’s been a clear attempt to push Pep Guardiola’s side ahead of Barcelona, with insistence that the cost of the whole package, transfer fee, agent commissions and salary, would be something Manchester City could afford, but perhaps not Barca.
Real Madrid have, of course, also been pulled in, yet it’s known their absolute priority for the summer is Kylian Mbappe, and with Karim Benzema still doing the business on a regular basis, there’d be no huge need for Haaland.
Mundo Deportivo report that according to sources close to the Premier League club, they feel Real Madrid are instead in the lead, so it looks like there’s an effort from those involved to pass the hot potato to each other.
Manchester City will certainly be in the market for a striker, and whilst Haaland makes sense, it would be understandable if they want to keep their options open and avoid the added pressure of building hype.
