With ten appearances for Manchester City so far, Brazilian fullback Danilo certainly can’t be called a flop yet, but he hasn’t been an immediate success either.
The pBrazilian hasn’t been able to steal Kyle Walker’s position, and despite having a couple of games in other roles, that wasn’t enough to convince manager Pep Guardiola.
That’s why there’s a reason for Real Madrid fans to have a laugh at him, and that’s basically what website El Bernabeu are doing today.
They recall that while Danilo couldn’t convince Zinedine Zidane he was better than Dani Carvajal, he was convinced by Pep Guardiola to make the move to Manchester City.
Guardiola would have told him about an important role at Manchester City, something that the manager ‘is not fulfilling’, so Danilo is ‘feeling betrayed’.
And the irony is that with Carvajal’s recent injury, youngster Achraf Hakimi is getting quite a few chances, with 507 minutes played in six appearances so far.
With still half of a season to go, and a five-year contract signed, Danilo obviously has plenty of time to convince Guardiola he deserves a place in the team.
But for now, Real Madrid fans and their fan websites are having a chuckle. Danilo needs to remember that he who laughs last laughs the loudest.
