Barcelona are trying to convince youngster Riqui Puig to sign a new contract at the club, with Manchester City hovering in the background.
That’s according to Fichajes, who say his continuity at the Camp Nou is ‘in question’ at this moment in time given his current situation at the club.
The young midfielder has struggled to establish himself in the first-team this season despite a raft of injuries meaning other youngsters have been given chances.
Indeed, several reports have indicated an issue with manager Ronald Koeman, with it recently revealed the Dutchman accused Puig of leaking team information earlier this season.
That would be a ‘real bombshell’ in the transfer market, and several big sides are positioning themselves to secure him on the cheap.
One of those are Manchester City, who ‘have looked’ at the 19-year-old midfielder, who will be available to negotiate a free transfer for the summer come the beginning of January.
Bayern Munich are also in the mix for the 19-year-old midfielder, who they say could end his time with Barça despite the fact he was once considered the future of the club and a potential key player down the line.
However, what this entire report doesn’t seem to be aware of, or has conveniently forgotten, is that Barcelona have an option to extend Puig’s contract for two years.
That means they are in absolutely no danger of losing him come January or indeed at any point in the near future.
Of course, that doesn’t mean Manchester City aren’t interested. In fact, it would be surprising if they weren’t given most in charge at the club have close ties to Barcelona in some way or another.
