It was last week that Portuguese newspaper Record broke the news regarding Manchester City’s interest in Sporting fullback Nuno Mendes.

The outlet claimed that Pep Guardiola’s side have been ‘intensifying interest’ on the 18-year-old and tried to get informed on the possibilities of a move.

Now it’s time for the Italian media to describe the situation, with an update confirming it’s the Premier League club who are currently leading this race.

Calciomercato.it writes that Juventus, Milan and Napoli are all interested in Nuno Mendes, but are unlikely to be able to compete for his signing due Sporting’s request of €70m, which is the amount of his release clause.

Besides having healthy financial conditions, Manchester City are pointed out as being in ‘pole position’ thanks to an extra factor, which is Pedro Porro.

The Spaniard has been loaned to Sporting until 2022, and even though there’s a buying clause which is very likely to be triggered by the Lions, the Premier League side could still use him as an argument to drop Mendes’ price.

All in all, Calciomercato.it sound quite pessimistic when it comes to the Italian clubs’ chances of competing for the player, and it’s Manchester City who are quite comfortably seen as the favourites to land the teenager.
