Manchester City have made the first contacts to get ahead in the race to sign Sporting CP full-back Nuno Mendes, according to reports from Portugal.
Newspaper Record says Pep Guardiola’s side have been following the player’s development for a while, and in the past weeks, decided to get informed about a potential summer move.
The outlet says ‘many possibilities’ were put on the table, including the one where Manchester City sign him now and let him spend another season at Sporting.
It’s claimed the interest from the Premier League side has been ‘intensifying’ as Nuno Mendes’ playing style would fit in Pep Guardiola’s scheme.
Nuno Mendes is protected by a release clause of €70m, and that amount will be used as a reference in the negotiations.
The newspaper remind everyone they’ve recently reported the interest from Manchester United and Liverpool in the 18-year-old as well, as well as also pointing out that he’s been linked this week to Napoli, Milan and Juventus.
