Sergio Aguero is set to undergo a medical at Barcelona, but only after Manchester City’s clash with Chelsea in the Champions League final.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say sources close to the negotiations confirm the move is 80% done at this moment in time.
Aguero is set to leave Manchester City at the end of the season, having announced his decision to bring an end to his ten-year stay earlier this year.
That announcement started something of a race for his signature, with Barcelona at the forefront of that battle.
It’s believed they see Aguero as a cheap alternative to bolster their forward line, with the Argentine happy to take a pay cut to move the Nou Camp.
Aguero is also seen as key to Barcelona’s hopes of keeping Lionel Messi, with the pair firm friends and keen to play together at club level.
As a result, a move for the Manchester City legend has been progressing steadily for the last few weeks and Mundo report today that he is getting ‘closer and closer’ to finalising the move.
Although it is not completely closed, sources close to the Argentine say it is ‘80%’ complete and that there are just a few details to resolve in the next few days.
A deal is already in place for a two-year contract, which would, coincidentally, see Aguero’s contract expire at the same time as Lionel Messi’s, should he agree to an extension at the Nou Camp.
Once the details are finalised, the idea is for Aguero to travel to Barcelona on May 30th, the day after Manchester City’s Champions League final appearance, so he can undergo a medical on the 31st.
His announcement, though, will have to be delayed until after the Copa America this summer as Aguero has to travel immediately to join the national side for their clash with Chile on June 3rd.
Five days later, Argentine will make their Copa America debut against the same side, by which point Aguero should be a Barcelona player.
