Ahead of the Champions League clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City fullback Danilo has spoken to the Brazilian media about his club’s aspirations.

With the player being part of a generation who seek a Champions League title, the 27-year-old has talked about how they’re planning to get more recognition on an European level.

“The great project of the club is to win as many titles as possible and to consolidate more and more in the European scenario,” Danilo told ESPN Brasil’s website. “The Champions League is one of the competitions with which we dream and we are ambitious to win, without a doubt.”

Now that Manchester City have reached the FA Cup final, it seems more possible that they they could get three more titles this season, adding to the League Cup trophy won last month. But Danilo says it will still be pretty hard to achieve all that.

“It would be spectacular to win all the competitions that we are still disputing but we are aware that it will be very difficult, especially at a stage of the season where it begins to have more physical wear and tear. The mental factor will undoubtedly be the most important to reach the farthest in all competitions. We will think game by game, without distinction of which competition we play, so we have a better chance of winning.”

Speaking about manager Pep Guardiola, Danilo says it’s still impressive how excited the boss is despite having won so many trophies already.

“Guardiola is already a legend among coaches and this is clear with each passing day. But what strikes me most is perhaps the way he still motivates himself and dreams of every achievement, every game… He prepares a lot for each challenge, and that’s a motivating factor for us athletes.

He also talked about the Manchester City manager’s importance in his evolution as a player, and to understand football in general: “He was and is being very important to me in terms of how to better use the spaces in the pitch and understand the opponent’s systems. I think I’m getting even more annoying and critical when watching football games (laughs).”
