A month ago, we explained it had been over two years since Manchester City player Marlos Moreno last scored a goal.
Signed by the Premier League side in 2016, the player couldn’t succeed in his loans at Deportivo La Coruña and Girona, and ended up being sent to Brazilian giants Flamengo this year.
Now to be fair to Moreno, we’re here reporting that he has finally found the net this weekend in Flamengo’s 1-1 draw against Palmeiras.
Subbed in at the 68th minute, the Colombian forward took less than ten minutes to make a good play and equalise the score.
This was Flamengo’s big chance to diminish the gap between them and Palmeiras. Marlos Moreno’s side currently stand with 59 points, while the leaders have 63 with seven fixtures to go.
Moreno has spoken to the local press after the game, and despite celebrating the end of his drought, he couldn’t hide the disappointment for the home draw.
“I’m very happy because it’s been a long time since I scored. These are situations that unfortunately happen in football. But it is a prize for commitment, for work, because I have never ceased to fight, to pursue my dream. I would be happier if it was the goal that gave us the three points,” he said (via Lance).
“It was tasteless. We needed the three points to get closer to them, but that’s football. We faced a great team. They are first, we played well, but we left with the draw.”
Flamengo manager Dorival Junior has also spoken about the player’s performance: “Marlos has been doing a serious job and asking for an opportunity. By the way he has behaved, wanting a new condition, it’s up to me to believe the athlete.”
Moreno’s loan deal with Flamengo expires at the end of the year, so Manchester City should soon decide if they take him to England or loan him out again.
