Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has convinced Ferran Torres to join the club this summer, leading Borussia Dortmund to give up their pursuit of the player.
That’s according to SportBild, who say Dortmund had identified Torres as a ‘potential successor’ to Jadon Sancho this summer.
They have ‘closely watched’ Torres for some time and sports director Michael Zorc even went to watch him in person during Valencia’s 4-1 defeat to Atalanta in the Champions League last 16.
He is ‘highly regarded’ in Dortmund but could not ‘fully convince’ the club to make their move, and they have subsequently ended up losing out to Manchester City.
It’s explained that the 20-year-old has already agreed on a move to the Etihad and is ‘eager’ to join Pep Guardiola at the club.
Manchester City’s manager is said to have ‘convinced’ the winger of their plans and that is why he is keen on the move.
Dortmund, for their part, were not convinced to pay a transfer fee of €35-40m for a player who has just six goals in 44 games this season.
However, the fee is ‘no problem’ for Manchester City, who are seemingly keen to start their summer rebuild as soon as possible.
