From the many clubs who’ve been linked to Benfica striker Darwin Nunez for the past couple of months, it’s probably fair to say that Manchester City are the ones who’ve been following him longest.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been reportedly interested in the 22-year-old since the summer of 2020, when the player had barely arrived at Benfica.

Now as Portuguese newspaper Record features a long piece explaining Darwin’s situation at the club, we, of course, get to see that Manchester City remain being named as one of the potential destinations for him.

It starts with Darwin’s agent Edgardo Lasalvia telling the Italian media that he will only sit with Benfica and discuss a transfer at the end of the season, despite confirming he’s been getting approaches from many clubs.

That information is confirmed by Record, who say the Eagles would only let Darwin go in January if a club shows up paying his €150m release clause.

Speaking of interested clubs, Man City are named among the likes of Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Newcastle United, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus.

Regarding Pep Guardiola’s side, it’s said there’s an ‘old love’ for Darwin, even though it’s not clear if this long chase could give the Etihad club an advantage in the race.

Even though the striker is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €20m, all this competition only makes it clear that Benfica will make a lot more once they decide to sell him.
