Now that Sporting finally secured their Portuguese League title, it’s time for the local media to ask what comes next for the Lions.
Most stories from their newspapers today look at the players who could leave or join the Lisbon side, with many names being analysed, including Cristiano Ronaldo’s.
As newspaper Record talks about that on Thursday, they have something to say on the future of Pedro Porro, who is currently loaned by Manchester City to Sporting until 2022.
The outlet writes that the Lions ‘should’ invest in their defence to sign him, and the club ‘want to anticipate’ the buying option and spend €8.5m to get the player permanently from the Etihad long before the end of the spell.
Newspaper O Jogo, however, brings some bad news about the Manchester City loanee.
Porro had been recovering from an injury and only played on Tuesday to be part of the title winning match.
The problem with that was he wasn’t fully recovered and left the pitch in tears still in the first half.
Now the outlet writes that there’s the risk of him missing out on the upcoming Euros.
The Portuguese media had been claiming that Sporting could receive big offers for Porro this summer once his transfer from Manchester City was formalised, especially if he were to represent Spain in the tournament.
Now, if he really is out of the competition, perhaps the Lions’ plans will have to change a little.
