Manchester City defender Ko Itakura is on the verge of completing a loan move to Schalke, with a medical scheduled for tomorrow.
That’s according to Sky Sports Max Bielefeld, who says a deal is now ‘very close’ to being completed.
Itakura returned to Manchester City from a two-year loan deal with FC Groningen, where he had established himself as a key player for the club.
Given the quality in Pep Guardiola’s squad, it was unlikely he would remain at the Etihad this summer, and Bielefeld confirms as much.
He says the Japanese defender will be joined 2.Bundesliga side Schalke on loan for the season after the two clubs agreed on a deal.
According to his information, Manchester City have agreed to loan out Itakura for the season and for there to be an option to make the deal permanent for €4m.
Itakura is now set to fly to Germany tomorrow to pass his medical and sign his contract with Dimitrios Grammozis’ side.
