AS report Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi is valued at €30m for a summer transfer, and agent Jorge Mendes is trying to get that figure down to €25m.
The 31 year old has a contract with the English club lasting until June 2022, but he’s considering an exit to get more regular football elsewhere. Concerned about his Argentina place, the defender feels he can prolong his international career if he’s more involved at another club.
AS then take claims from Portuguese newspaper A Bola to say that Otamendi could be used as part of a deal to get Rodri from Atletico Madrid, but that’s a rumour which was a natural consequence of the player being of interest to the Rojiblancos.
A few days ago we covered a report from Marca, which stated Diego Simeone is very keen on signing the Manchester City player, but his chances of a deal aren’t very high.
That’s because Atletico would have problems getting near the wages Otamendi currently earns in England. The club’s salary level has gone through the roof with big contracts, perhaps too big, for Simeone and Antoine Griezmann.
With the Frenchman again being linked to Barcelona, things could change.
