Sevilla defender Jules Koundé has once again opened up on the interest from Manchester City this summer, labelling it a ‘good thing’.
The French centre back was heavily linked with a move to the Etihad for much of the summer, with Pep Guardiola having focused on improving his defence during the transfer window.
He ultimately settled on Nathan Aké and Ruben Dias, the latter arriving late in the window after other options did not work out.
One of those was Koundé, who had been linked throughout the window, with some reports stating that Manchester City were willing to pay big to secure his signature.
Ultimately that never happened, although both the player and his agent have confirmed that the supposed interest from Manchester City was genuine.
He’s now commented on the interest again and admitted he’s fine with it the transfer not coming off.
“The interest of a club like City is always a good thing, but I am at Sevilla and very calm,” he told Sevilla’s official website.
“I am lucky to be in a club that competes at a very good level. We have a fantastic group of players and people.
“There was no bad option, but I always told Monchi that I was not going to force things. If everyone was not happy, I knew I had a contract here, playing in the Champions League.“
