Lucas Martínez Quarta has been a regular inclusion in River Plate’s starting lineup since the start of the 2018/19 season.
The centre-back’s performances for the Argentine side have caught attention of clubs in Europe, claims Calciomercato.it.
Inter Milan have long been interested in him and in the past few weeks, Manchester City, along with Real Madrid and Real Betis, have joined the race for the defender.
Ajax and Borussia Dortmund are also in the tussle.
The 23-year-old’s current deal with River Plate runs down in 2021 and the contract has a €22m release clause. The Italian website states he is ‘ready to make a big leap’ to Europe.
Gustavo Goñi, the agent of the Argentine has given an interview to TNT Sports and claimed there were many clubs following his client before the global health crisis. He remains hopeful there will be offers for the player to leave River Plate.
“Until before the quarantine, many clubs were after El Chino. There were many clubs that had come to see him. I think there will be interest again when the picture is clear,” Goñi said.
“The idea is to agree with River an opportunity for everyone, hopefully the best possible offer will come. In case that does not happen, we will have to get together and see what is most beneficial for everyone. But today we are imagining, it is a matter of waiting.”
Goñi didn’t provide any details of the clubs who watched the River Plate man and Calciomercato.it only mentioned Pep Guardiola’s side joining clubs across Europe in the race for Lucas Martínez Quarta.
