Inter Milan could make a move for Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullá, who says the Argentine is ‘a possibility’ for the Serie A side.
Inter enjoyed a busy summer transfer window, with no fewer than ten new players arriving as Antonio Conte looks to assemble a squad capable of challenging Juventus at the top of the table.
One position they didn’t significantly strengthen in was up front given their strength there, but according to Pedullá that could change come the January transfer window, with Agüero free to negotiate with clubs as his Manchester City contract expires next summer.
“I remember it was the end of May, when we approached Aguero, a bit surprisingly, at Inter,” he told Sportitalia Mercato.
“Above all, however, as a possibility on a free transfer. Kun intended to complete the season with Manchester City.
“They have proposed a renewal that the player has not taken into consideration at the moment. Let’s see. For sure, it can be a free transfer.
“He is Argentine and has a great feeling with the Inter world and with Zanetti. He is a strong player, and his contract expires: it is a situation that must be followed.
“Because there had already been a poll with indirect messages from Kun to Inter. And let’s talk about the end of May.”
At this stage then, it appears the ball is very much in Agüero’s court on the potential move. City are obviously keen to keep him for another year, but it seems at 32 he’s eyeing up alternatives.
The chance to play in Serie A, with a big club like Inter, would presumably appeal and going by what Pedullá is saying, they’re open to it too.
Of course, things can change, and perhaps loyalty will see Agüero stay at the Etihad, but as the Italian says, this is one to keep an eye on come January.
