Loaned out to Anderlecht for the season, Lukas Nmecha has made a new name for himself in Belgium, far away from Manchester City.
Owned by Pep Guardiola’s side, the striker has thrived under Vincent Kompany, to the extent where the former Etihad legend wants to keep the German around next season.
We’ve covered a number of articles on the matter, and while Nmecha has made it clear he’d like to play in the Champions League, he has also recently opened the door to a stay at Anderlecht.
Beating Club Brugge 2-1 at the weekend, the Jupiler Pro League side had the Manchester City loanee to thank for one of the goals, scoring his side’s first in the 72nd minute.
After the game, the player reacted to his performance and the match as a whole before hinting he could stay.
He said, relayed by DH: “The best team won tonight. We showed a good mentality this season during which we’ve known good and bad periods. Whatever the result between Oostende and Beerschot tonight, we want to win the next game to get closer to the top teams and obtain everything we can. We dream of the Champions League. We’ll see if it’s with Manchester City or Anderlecht”.
That last sentence certainly suggests that if the Belgian side qualify for Europe’s top competition, a stay wouldn’t be out of the question.
Otherwise, it’s back to the Etihad where Manchester City will have to decide what to do with him.
