Borussia Dortmund turned down the chance to sign new Manchester City star Ferran Torres this summer, believing the forward was not ‘dangerous enough’.
That’s according to Sky Sport Germany, who say the player’s advisors visited Dortmund twice to talk over a possible move.
Torres has been a sensation since arriving at Manchester City in a £20.7m move from Valencia, with five goals and two assists in 12 games so far.
He’s also been shining on the international stage, causing plenty of coverage back in Spain, where the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid are kicking themselves for not securing a player with a seemingly very bright future.
It seems we can now add Dortmund to that list, with Sky reporting they ‘could also have secured’ the Spaniard’s services.
They explain that his advisors were at Dortmund twice during the summer transfer window, but the Bundesliga club rejected the idea because they thought he was not ‘dangerous enough’.
He was available for €23m, so the same price Manchester City paid for him in the summer, which is presumably adding even more to their frustration.
Dortmund are not the only German side to have turned down the chance to sign Torres, with Borussia Mönchengladbach rejecting him in January 2019 as well.
City won’t care, of course, they got themselves an excellent deal and Torres’ continued outstanding performances are only making that all the sweeter.
