Manchester City have completed a deal to sign Estudiantes youngster Darío Sarmiento, with the youngster set to join next summer.
City have been linked with the 17-year-old winger for several months, with a report in November stating that a move was ‘imminent’ and could cost as much as €20m.
There’s been little update since then, aside from coverage of Estudiantes’ unhappiness with the whole affair, but El Dia provide a big one today.
They say there is now a ‘total agreement’ between the two club and Sarmiento will be moving to England in the near future.
They report that the two clubs have agreed a €6m deal for the winger, which also includes a 20 percent ‘capital gain’ on a future sale. In other words, 20% of any profit in a future sale.
However, if the deadline on that clause expires, Estudiantes will still gain from it, with it agreed that they will receive another €6m in that eventuality.
Thus, Manchester City could end up paying around €12m for the Argentine youngster, who is set to join the club in June next year once he turns 18.
There’s no mention of whether he will be heading straight to the Etihad or joining another club in the City Group portfolio, nor is there any talk of a work permit and how he will get one.
The likelihood is that the youngster will spend some time at one of City’s clubs around Europe as numerous other young players at the club have done in recent years.
