Schalke are edging forward to being able to announce the signing of Rabbi Matondo from Manchester City.
The Premier League club have been struggling to get the 18 year old to renew and, knowing they’re probably fighting a losing battle, Pep Guardiola’s club have changed their approach.
Bild reports that Manchester City initially rejected a €10m offer from Schalke for the youngster, but now they’re set to sell him for a lower amount.
The German newspaper says the English club have agreed to sell the player for a fee around €5-7m. The reason for the lower amount is a buyback clause being put in the deal.
Stung by the quick development of Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund, they don’t want Matondo to go on the same upward curve and then be out of their control.
Bild believe the buyback clause is valued at around €30m, something which would be acceptable to both sides involved in the deal.
It’s explained the transfer deal is ‘almost finished’ and Schalke close to getting their man.
