Manchester City are edging closer to completing the signing of River Plate youngster Claudio Echeverri, according to Olé.
The Premier League winners were negotiating with the Argentine club for over a month before the two parties came to an agreement on Wednesday.
It’s said the midfielder will be sold to Manchester City for €18m plus €9m bonuses, linked to his individual performance.
The Citizens are sorting out the ‘small fringes’ over the 18-year-old’s personal terms, and once this and the medical tests are done, he will sign a six-year deal at the Etihad.
Echeverri won’t be part of Pep Guardiola’s squad and will instead return to River Plate on loan until the end of this year.
The report says Manchester City will have an option to cut short his stay in the summer, if he doesn’t feature regularly for the South American club. That’s because Guardiola’s side want the youngster to be ready when he arrives in Europe.
If the player were to stay at River Plate until the end of this year, Olé say he won’t arrive at Manchester City in January 2025. Instead, the Citizens’ plan is to send him on loan, likely to Girona, and he will only arrive at the Etihad in 2026.
Echeverri has a €25m release clause but Manchester City will pay €18m fixed fee plus €9m bonuses. River Plate have agreed to sell him to Manchester City and the latter two need to sort out the personal terms to conclude the operation.
