Gonzalo Montiel’s links to West Ham United have recently become a daily subject in the Argentine media.

So much so that, inn the past 24 hours, outlet El Intransigente has two stories where they mention the Hammers’ interest in the River Plate player.

They first claim it was manager Marcelo Gallardo who vetoed the transfer when the Premier League side tried to sign Montiel on a loan deal back in January.

Then in another story, which was originally about an old picture of the player wearing a River Plate shirt, they talk about the big chase there is for him these days.

El Intransigente writes that West Ham were those ‘most interested’ in signing the right-back, but there are no open negotiations for now. They also highlight the fact that Montiel’s agent said it’s time for him to depart to Europe.

It’s claimed that given the player’s €20m release clause, River Plate expect him to be one of the biggest sales they’ve ever made.

In an exclusive story published by Sport Witness last week, we’ve been told West Ham are expected to make a new attempt in case they stay in the Premier League.
