Earlier on Monday, we covered a story in Il Tempo claiming that Lazio could make a return with their interest in Liverpool’s Marko Grujic.
There was nothing definite, and it sounded more like speculation than anything else, but it was worth covering nonetheless, as this news clearly came from somewhere.
However, the Serie A side might find themselves fighting a losing battle, as Hertha Berlin, the team who had Grujic on loan from Liverpool this season, want to keep him.
Relayed by Kicker, the club’s manager, Michael Preetz, said: “He wants to stay and Liverpool saw that the loan has worked. It makes sense to give the player a second year in a place he knows and feels comfortable with. I think we have good arguments”.
And that they do, as Grujic scored five goals and picked up an assist in 22 appearances for the Bundesliga side, impressing throughout the campaign when he was used.
Kicker explain talks with Liverpool ‘are to be intensified’ this week as Hertha Berlin try and secure the 23-year-old’s services for the next 12 months.
Maybe they’ll try and include a clause to make the deal permanent in the loan this time around?
If they do, that could be an indication the Serbia international isn’t part of Jürgen Klopp’s long term plans at the club anymore despite being the first signing of the German’s reign at Anfield.
We’ll have to wait and see, though.
