Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri has ‘spoken’ with Everton midfielder Allan about a return to Italy this month.
That’s according to Il Mattino, who say the Brazilian has been made available for loan this month by the Toffees.
The newspaper explains that Sarri and Lazio are looking to sell Luis Alberto, and should they do so, they will need a replacement for the midfielder.
The Lazio boss has two names on his list, and both are former disciples, Mattias Vecino and Allan.
It’s not made clear why that is the case, but it might have something to do with his age, the midfielder having turned 31 on January 8th.
That goes somewhat against the new strategy at Goodison Park, which has seen them targeting younger players, in particular, this month.
It could also be an issue for Lazio, particularly as Sarri has insisted publicly that the club need to focus on ‘rejuvenation’ of the squad.
Signing a 31-year-old doesn’t fit into that, but Allan is a former Sarri disciple; in fact, he’s made more appearances under him than any other manager during his career, and that works in his favour.
So much so that ‘he has spoken with Allan’ about a potential move to Lazio this month, with Everton ‘willing’ to sanction a deal.
