If Sporting were already interested in signing Lazar Markovic from Liverpool, they should now really go for it. According to Thursday’s edition of Portuguese newspaper Record, the manager Jorge Jesus sees the Serbian player as a good replacement for João Mário, who is set to leave the club this summer.
Record’s article has a full coverage of Markovic’s situation at Anfield, including the details of his appearance in a friendly match against Fleetwood Town this Wednesday.
Just like reported before, they say that Jorge Jesus has already talked to the player and had a positive answer from him. However, they seem to believe that Jurgen Klopp is counting on the 22-year-old for the next season.
The newspaper takes the reports from the Turkish press which say that despite a bid of €25m being rejected, Fenerbahce are still interested in having the player, and could try to sign him for another year on loan.
It’s still unknown if Sporting would try to buy Markovic or get him on loan as well, but in both cases, his €4m annual wages are a big issue for the Portuguese side.
The Portuguese media are excited about this one. Markovic was much loved and it would be nice to see him back in the country, especially given that Sporting would be getting one over Benfica, but perhaps the details aren’t all spot on. However, the will certainly seems there.
