Earlier on Thursday we covered the latest claims from Italy about Axel Witsel, Thursday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport said Inter Milan were now the most likely Italian destination for the player, and not Napoli.

The Witsel transfer circus is frustrating, and with Everton being linked once again, we wondered if the English club might decide to walk away, if they hadn’t already.

This happens with Witsel every window and there’s always the possibility he stays where he is, like all the other times.

However, maybe there’s been a change on that. Belgium’s DH have done some digging and they’ve found quotes in Russia from Zenit’s manager.

Mircea Lucescu told Russian news agency TASS: “We lost three key players: Danny is injured, Hulk in China, and Witsel is awaiting a transfer.”

That’s very different to previous words from Zenit in previous windows, when it was always stated that Witsel would stay unless someone paid a big fee.

Perhaps Zenit are getting sick of it too.
