Dundee manager Paul Hartley has again confirmed he can’t afford to lose his star forward Greg Stewart in this transfer window. Stewart has refused to extend his contract with the SPL club beyond June 2017, and subsequently has been linked with a move to Leeds United this summer.
Speaking to The Dundee Evening Telegraph, Hartley said there will always be clubs showing an interest in Stewart because of the way he’s performed for Dundee in recent seasons. The Dundee boss knows they can’t prevent speculation on the player’s future, but revealed they can’t sell him this summer because the forward is irreplaceable.
“Clubs will be interested after that. I think the way he has performed over the last two years there will always be interest in him. We can’t prevent that. That is just what happens when you have a good player on your hands. There is no way we want to sell because we just know he is irreplaceable. There is no danger we can replace him,” said the Dundee boss.
Leeds United have been linked with Stewart all summer as Garry Monk looks to bolster his attacking options for next season. However, the Dundee leaders aren’t prepared to let him leave on the cheap in this transfer window, and would rather see him exit the club on a free next summer.
