Former Netherlands international Wim Kieft believes Tottenham Hotspur forward Vincent Janssen can no longer be guaranteed a place in the national team. The 22-year-old hasn’t made any real impact since signing for Tottenham in the last summer window, but has continued to be selected by Netherlands manager Danny Blind.
Voetbal Primeur have reported on comments made by Kieft when asked whether Janssen or Sporting’s Bas Dost should start in the upcoming World Cup Qualifier.
Kieft realises Blind is an admirer of Janssen, but thinks Dost can no longer be overlooked because of what the 27 year old Dutchman has achieved at Sporting Lisbon this season.
“Vincent Janssen is a good player, but of course he does not play. He just happens to score a goal, but he did not play for weeks. Blind prefers to play with Janssen, but he can no longer be compared to Bas Dost,” said Kieft.
Janssen was one of Tottenham’s major signings in the summer, but he’s struggled to games and goals since arriving in England. Yesterday Janssen scored his first goal from open play for the North London side during the 6-0 victory over Millwall.
However, despite Blind’s policy of only picking players who play regular games for their clubs, he’s continued to give the Tottenham player chances.
