Oxford United manager Michael Appleton is disappointed to lose his star forward Kemar Roofe, but hopes he can replace the player. Roofe yesterday joined Leeds United on a four-year deal.
Speaking to the Witney Gazette, Appleton expressed his disappointment Roofe has signed for Leeds United, but the former Manchester United midfielder hopes young players can now come in to be given an opportunity.
Appleton went on to say he hopes players like Roofe can come through the system at Oxford United in the future.
“We’ll bring young players in who feel they need an opportunity to express themselves and spread their wings. Kemar I’m hoping will be the first of many, albeit not now, a little later on,” said Appleton.
Kemar grabbed the headlines for his match winning performance against Swansea City last season when his two goals helped Oxford United knock the Premier League side out of the FA Cup.
This helped bring him to the attention of Leeds United, and the Championship side signed the forward yesterday for £3m.
