Porto manager Sérgio Conceição is a potential target for West Ham as he considers a move away from the Liga NOS side.
That’s according to Correio da Manha, who say Conceição is currently in talks with Porto president Pinto da Costa.
The newspaper explains that, with Conceição’s contract expiring this summer, the club are keen to sign him to a new deal, and he had lunch with his superior to discuss the renewal.
They’re offering two more years, an improvement on his salary and greater investment in the squad to get the reinforcements that he wants.
At the minute, Conceição has left a ‘final decision’ until the last few days but is ‘reluctant’ to accept because of several issues.
He feels he has ‘suffered a stain’ on his image and is creating the image of him being a bad boy due to his successive red cards on the touchline.
These could harm his future prospects, particularly his hopes of an international career, as well as his chances of getting a job elsewhere.
It is that bit which is crucial as he feels undervalued at Porto, who delayed in offering him a new contract despite him securing Champions League football and establishing several players.
In terms of suitors, there are two on the ‘front line’ for his signature, West Ham and Lazio, although it’s not made clear if either have made a bid.
Their chances of getting him might be slim, though, as he wants Champions League football, which is why he ‘aborted’ his move to Napoli.
That is something West Ham can’t offer after missing out on the top four this season, so presumably, Conceição wouldn’t be keen anyway.
Indeed this story feels a little strange given the Hammers are more than happy with David Moyes and feels more like an agent using the tricks in his arsenal to push Porto into offering more amid the contract renewal talks.
