João Cancelo swapped Juventus for Manchester City in 2019 and after struggling in his debut season in England, he has consistently managed to shine for the English champions.
The fullback’s fine displays for the Citizens helped him land an extension at the Etihad on February 1st. His new deal will now down in 2027.
This week’s edition of SportBild has a report focusing on the ex-Valencia man impressing Bayern Munich manager, Julian Nagelsmann.
It’s claimed ‘the manager is a fan’ of the Portugal international, who reportedly has a market value of around €60m.
The report again points out the defender recently signed a new deal with Pep Guardiola’s side and that, at the moment, makes him ‘unaffordable’ for the German champions.
A significantly cheaper backup solution is also discussed internally at the Allianz Arena. An option for the right-back position is Bologna’s Denso Kasius, who joined the Serie A side from Utrecht for €3m last month.
Bayern’s focus is on extending their stars’ contracts and therefore, SportBild explain the leaders of the German club are either looking at free transfers or relatively cheap signings.
In other words, even though Nagelsmann is an admirer of Cancelo, his signing is not affordable for Bayern.
