It’s no secret that Ronald Koeman wants to manage Barcelona one day.

The Dutchman was a playing hero for the club, helping them to their first European Cup win, and would like to return and enjoy more success there.

He’s currently managing the Netherlands, and it’s been revealed previously that Koeman has a clause in his contract meaning he can move to Barcelona after Euro 2020.

Given that it was announced on Monday that Euro 2020 will become Euro 2021, there’s been some questions in the Dutch media about the Barcelona option, and whether it could now see Koeman move to the Camp Nou before the European Championship takes place.

He’s moved to rubbish that, insisting that whilst health is currently the most important topic, he’s contracted to stay specifically until after the tournament, so that it happens later will simply extend the clause.

De Telegraaf quote him as saying: “That clause will only come into effect after the European Championship. In this case, therefore, after Euro 2021.”

The Netherlands will have several players back from injury, including Memphis Depay, given the delay, and Koeman has said it’s a ‘stroke of luck’ for the national team.
