As great as Marcus Forss was against Oldham for Brentford in their 7-0 EFL Cup win, in which the striker scored four goals, the player is now in a bit of a predicament.

The 22-year-old, who has been with the Bees for the past four years since his free transfer from West Bromwich Albion in 2017, now has five goals to his name in three appearances this season.

Admittedly, all those goals came in the EFL Cup and he’s only played four minutes of Premier League football this season, but it’s clear Thomas Frank trusts him enough to lead the line in the cup competition.

His performances for Brentford have also allowed him to get a number of caps for his native Finland, with nine to date, during which he has found the back of the net once.

Forss was set to add to that tally this international break, but it appears a rather unfortunate injury sustained during the Oldham game has kept him from doing so.

Speaking about his choice of players, Finland manager Markku Kanerva explained an elbow to the ear kept the Brentford man from being called up.

He said, relayed by the Finnish FA: “The team’s doctor has ordered Marcus to be banned from flying”.

That’s despite Forss being ‘fit to play’, but it’s the travel part that’s the issue.

This means Brentford shouldn’t be without their EFL Cup hero, and it’s solely Finland who will miss out on his services.
