Carles Gill will likely never play for Steve Bruce at Aston Villa if he gets his own way. The 24 year old Spaniard is rebuilding his career at Deportivo La Coruna and whilst it would be wrong to say it’s all gone swimmingly, Gil has in recent weeks started to find his feet… and his voice.
Gil has already made it clear he’s happy to remain at Depor beyond the end of the current season, but acknowledged that Aston Villa will have a say in whatever happens. Even if they avoid relegation, which is now looking likely, Depor don’t have a great amount of funds to call upon so this wouldn’t be a deal which would boost Bruce’s war-chest much.
The Villa outcast is doing all he can to cosy up to new manager Pepe Mel and on Saturday is quoted by Mundo Deportivo as saying: “(Mel) gave us an injection of morale that the team needed to swallow. With just days with us the change was brutal.”
On Depor’s former coach, Gil said: “I had a hard time getting in and then there was an injury. I would have liked to play a lot more, but I think my performance is good.”
Should Gil continue to be favoured by Mel, and continue to praise his manager, then Aston Villa should be expecting a telephone cal from Depor.
